AI doesn’t replace architecture — it makes good architecture non‑negotiable. When AI starts calling your APIs, your integration choices become governance choices, and your architecture layers either amplify value or amplify chaos. Here’s the clean mental model I use:

Integration Architecture answers “How do systems talk safely and reliably?”

Enterprise Architecture answers “Why these capabilities, and how do they fit our business model?”

Solution Architecture answers “How do we deliver this specific outcome, with constraints, now?”

AI is the accelerant across all three. At the integration layer, AI turns APIs into “tools” — so API management, policy enforcement, and discoverability become the new runtime guardrails. At the enterprise layer, AI forces clarity: which capabilities are strategic, which are commodity, and where automation should (or shouldn’t) happen. At the solution layer, AI pushes patterns like event‑driven flows, orchestrated processes, and governed data exchange into the design from day one.

Practical takeaway: If you want AI outcomes that scale, align these layers early: Define enterprise guardrails (principles, risk, cost ownership). Standardize integration patterns (API, event, workflow). Design each solution to use the platform — not bypass it. When those three layers click, AI becomes a multiplier instead of a risk. Visual idea (simple diagram): A three‑layer stack with arrows: Top: “Enterprise Architecture – capabilities, governance, strategy” Middle: “Integration Architecture – APIs, events, policies” Bottom: “Solution Architecture – delivery, patterns, constraints” AI layer overlay across all three with “models + agents + orchestration”
